A comeback the Russian player won his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
